You probably knew that the top pitchers of the month were Clayton Kershaw, Felix Hernandez and Masahiro Tanaka, but did you know that three very cheap ptchers finished 9-11? Yes, they would be Jake Arrieta, Sean Doolittle and Danny Duffy.
On the hitting side the month’s leaders were Jose Altuve, Andrew McCutchen and Billy Hamilton, with Todd Frzier, Adam Jones and Mike Trout close behind.
Cheap hitters are much scarcer at the top of the list, but Corey Dickerson finished 11th, JD Martinez was 16th and Scooter Gennett was 18th.
The most expensive hitting failures have been Jedd Gyorko, Everth Cabrera, Mitch Moreland and Wil Venable. What place are the Padres in? Third? Not bad!
Expensive pitchers coming off awful Junes are James Shields, Justin Verlander and Marco Estrada.
I’ve included preseason 5×5 roto prices, which should track on a similar scale to the inseason prices, so you can judge how players are performing versus expectations. More on that coming soon.
